The number of people who tune into podcasts grows each year, leaving hosts to wonder how to better engage and retain their audience. Instreamatic CMO Simon Dunlop sat down with Podcast Movement to share how podcasters can use interactive voice experiences to do just that.

According to Dunlop, voice is a much more beneficial tool for interaction on an audio channel than typing or clicking.

“The majority of podcast listening happens on mobile, and so you have to think: How can you engage your audience in that mobile environment where they don’t have a keyboard in front of them, or a big screen? Voice is the perfect interface for that,” Dunlop said.

Instreamatic’s latest voice feedback product, Speaky, activates a direct line of communication between listener and podcaster. After an episode, listeners can share their thoughts or answer a question, for example.

“When people speak, they tend to do so from the heart and also to follow through with their intentions. So by engaging people in a conversation, you can get a lot more qualitative experience from them,” Dunlop said.

Interactive voice ads, another product powered by Instreamatic, are ads that engage the listener in spoken dialogue and can be used in a podcasting environment for better audience engagement.

“It’s a really useful and engaging format, and I think it really leverages the voice boom that we’re seeing,” he said.
